A peak flow meter measures how fast you can blow air out — your peak expiratory flow (PEF). Doctors often ask people to track it at home.
Adult vs child meters
| Meter | Range | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | 60–800 L/min | Rossmax PF120A |
| Child | 50–400 L/min | Child peak flow meter |
How to use it
- Slide the marker to zero.
- Stand up and take a deep breath.
- Seal your lips on the mouthpiece and blow once, hard and fast.
- Note the number; repeat three times.
- Write down the best of the three.
About the zones
- Your doctor sets your green, yellow and red zones from your personal best.
- They tell you what to do in each zone.
- Keep a diary and take it to your appointments.
